Task #3 My Hobby
The first day in class I said that my hobby was traveling with my wife.
It's true, but I found it very difficult to talk about it for this presentation.
So, I decided to ask the person who knows better than me almost everything...
Yes, you're right: my wife!
This is she.
And what she told me was that I needed to be more specific, to choose one trip or one topic, think about what I want to communicate, and take into account what media I could use.
Besides, I realize that I usually take photos, every time, everywhere, so perhaps photography could be my hobby.
I enjoy it, but I'm not a professional, so this could work as a hobby!
The first thing for the presentation: I checked the files on my computer... Too many... I need to be more specific, so I turned into Instagram... That's better!
Second, I thought about what I wanted to tell for this meeting. I realized that of those Instagrams pictures there was a kind of travel that would be incomplete unless it was told.
It began on March 10th.
It was the last day that we attended classes at ETSAM before the pandemic lockdown.
I think we have all discovered since then our homes in a new way.
I usually work at home, but my wife doesn't and none of us had spent so much time inside without going out even for a walk. No days, no weeks, but months!
Taking photos was useful for me to rediscover my home.
I appreciate the small things.
My favorite corner.
The taste of the lemon cake my wife cooks.
How green an olive oil bottle could be.
How beautiful our orchid is.
The smoothness and transparency of our curtains.
And that light always opens a window, even on a brick wall.
Bur what I rediscovered was my terrace window.
Our house is northeast oriented and I decided to register every dawn till the lockdown ended.
It took me twenty days to reach this point, but once decided I couldn't stop till the end.
So, here I am, on March 11th, at 8:01 am outside of my terrace: one shoot per day at dawn.
I discovered where the sun rises, how its path changes with the seasons, how the light changes in this very moment, etc.
The first day we could, we went to see the dawn over Madrid.
I think it was amazing and it was worth waking up at unreasonable hours.
And on June 21st the state of alarm expired I, with it, my commitment to shoot every dawn.
This was the end of a kind of interior journey that made me enjoy the miracle of nature and daily life.
And getting back to the original question, I don't really know if my hobby is traveling, photography, or just storytelling.
Thanks!
